The best book to read is the Bible

A short story I made up for Sunday School the other day as I taught about the Bible being God's Word and important for us to read so we can hear what God says.

"There once was a girl called Claire who loved to read. She read all sorts of books- books about princesses, dragons, cars, animals, magical trees. She loved reading books.

That made Claire's mum really happy because Claire's mum loved to read too. So sometimes on Saturday afternoons, Claire and her mum would sit on the couch together and read all afternoon. And they loved it.

But Claire's mum started to get a bit worried about Claire. Because Claire started talking as if her books were REAL. She would say things like, "Just going into the garden to look for the magic tree" and "Can we go visit Princess Belle?" (from Beauty and the Beast).

So Claire's mum decided they needed to have a talk and this is what Claire's mum said:

"Claire, it's so great the you love to read. But remember, the books that you read are just stories. They're pretend - not real. I want to show you another book, the most important book you will ever read. This book isn't pretend. It's real. It's called the Bible and it's God's special book that He's given to us. God gave it to us so we could know all about who he is."

Claire was so excited to have her very own Bible that she could read every day."

After the story, I gave a conclusion and prayer and then we sang the Colin Buchanan(?) song "The best book to read is the Bible".
